Myth: If an employee is working himself into the ground, it's his own fault.
Often the manager thinks overwork is due to inefficiencies. But studies such as those at the International Food Policy Research Institute, a Washington nonprofit group, show that a "crisis mentality" was driving scientists to work incredibly long hours. Their time was not valued. Analysis showed that the scientists were involved in many activities and meetings that were cutting into research time. A change in routine helped to solve the problem. Long seen as the failing of an individual, the time bind is organizational in many cases.

People change. People's options change, and their conditions change. The buyer who rejected your offer before could be ready to accept it now. Focus on what you can do to win the sale this time around.

Mistakes aren't fatal. If you think you used the wrong approach and triggered a rejection before, decide how you can change or upgrade your presentation.

Stay positive. One rejection can hurt, and two in a row are even worse. But keep positive. A rejection or two doesn't mean that you will have several in a row or that your products have lost favor with customers in general. Each incident is, in itself, an isolated event.

Get real about prospects. They are not all-powerful. Rather, they have fears, weaknesses, and insecurities of their own.
When you take pride in yourself and your products, when you aren't intimidated by titles, you will succeed.
